Welcome to Billy’s Movie Blog

Hello, and welcome to Billy’s Movie Blog!

I’m Billy Soistmann. I’m a high school student and filmmaker living in Newark, DE and welcome to the launch of my movie blog.

I’ve tried to get started really writing my thoughts about film down for a while, and I’ve tried blogging before, but I think I finally have a good solution. I’ve revamped this site and I’m ready to roll. In the past few weeks, I experimented by posting different kinds of content, and I am now ready to set off on this grand adventure.

So, what is this blog about? Movies, of course! The main goal of this blog is for me to review every movie I see, whether it be in a theater or at home. This is an ambitious goal because I watch a lot of movies, but here’s how I’m going to do it.

For some films, I will write full-length, in-depth reviews. Hopefully the number of these will grow, but for now I’m going to start with movies I see on the big screen. For other movies, I have my week in review posts. Every week, I’ll look back at all the films I saw, and either link to my full review, or just give a small blurb expressing my general thoughts on them. You see, this way, if I don’t have time to write a full review, I will still be able develop my film critic skills.

That’s it for my reviews. I have decided to shy away from news, mainly because I don’t have the time to cover the sheer volume of stories the entertainment industry generates, but also because there are plenty of other great movie sites that do a great job of this already. What I will be publishing are my opinions are various news items. So, if I read that so-and-so was cast as Superman or something, I’ll tell you what I think. This blog is about my opinions of movies and film news.

Finally, I want to announce my mission to see all 1,000 Greatest Films of All Time as published by TSPDT.com. I understand that these films are not a definitive list of THE best movies ever, but I am just going to use it as a guide to expand my film knowledge. I thought about using other Top 100 Movie lists, like AFI’s, but I have decided to go with this one because of its sheer scope (I haven’t seen 1,000 movies in my life!) and considering the fact that it was developed using various other lists. With God as my witness, I now pledge to see all 1,000 of these films before I start college in Fall 2011. (Oh, by the way, I have only seen barely 100 movies on the list, so far. Wish me luck!)

So, that’s what you can expect from this blog. Hopefully, I can stay at a post per day and I can develop into a respected film critic. Look out for my thoughts on the Oscars tomorrow.
